Rob Collard and Will Burns have both been transferred to hospital following the major shunt which halted round 25 of the 2017 British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone.

A chain-reaction of contact on the approach to Maggots corner pushed Team BMW's Collard onto the wet grass through Becketts before eventually settling right in the line of fire, where Burns collected the stricken 1 Series.

The contact caused a severe degree of damage and while both drivers extricated themselves from the scene of the incident, both are being sent to hospital for further checks.

Collard is said to be bruised and shaken from the incident and receiving precautionary checks, but is largely OK.

Burns has since been diagnosed with suspected broken ribs and has been airlifted to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

Understandably, both drivers have been ruled out for the remainder of the meeting.
