F1 2012 standings after Italian GP

Fernando Alonso recovers from his problems in qualifying to fight back to take a podium at Monza and extend his lead in the battle for the F1 2012 Drivers' Championship from 24 points to 37.

Lewis Hamilton meanwhile leaps up to second in the standings after winning, with Kimi Raikkonen now third, one point ahead of Sebastian Vettel, who slips to fourth after retiring. Mark Webber is fifth, with Jenson Button sixth.

In the Constructors' Championship, Red Bull Racing sees it lead over McLaren reduced from 54 points to 29. Ferrari now lies third, 17 points further adrift, with Lotus fourth and Mercedes fifth. Sauber consolidate sixth place and close up on Mercedes after Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi finish 2-9.
