Fresh from his first Formula One victory, Fernando Alonso has been set a new challenge - driving his Renault R23 racing car round the streets of Moscow.

And at the speeds the average Russian taxi driver goes, the youngest Grand Prix winner will have his work cut out to keep up!

He shouldn't have to worry too much, though. The City of Moscow authorities are closing down the roads so that Alonso and team-mate Jarno Trulli can try and outdrag each other round the streets in front of thousands of F1 fans in October.

The sport has a huge following in Russia and this will give them a close up view.

"In fact it will be the first time a Formula One car has ever run on Russian soil," said Jean-Michel Jalinier, the head of Renault in the country.

Renault has long links in Russia, selling its cars there for many years, and is currently building a new factory in Moscow.

Spanish flier Alonso is no stranger to street circuits - the Monaco Grand Prix aside - he has already run his F1 car round the roads in Madrid earlier this year.
