This is the accident which has damaged the titanium plate inserted just two weeks ago to hold MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo's broken collarbone together.

The highside happened in afternoon practice for the German round at the Sachsenring (see below for more images).

Lorenzo had been fastest in the morning and was leading at the time of his fall in the afternoon.

The new damage will require further surgery and Lorenzo has withdrawn from the Sachsenring event.

Lorenzo suffered the original injury during practice at Assen, underwent surgery in Barcelona, then made a shock return to claim fifth in the Dutch race.

As a result of those heroics he is just nine points behind Dani Pedrosa and the world championship lead, but Friday's accident proved a bridge too far even for Lorenzo.

In an added blow for Lorenzo, the US GP takes place next weekend, after which the summer break will start.
