After topping the first day of official Moto2 testing in Portimao, Jake Dixon continued his impressive form to claim P4 on day two.

Dixon, who made his MotoGP debut for Petronas Yamaha in 2021 - contested his home round at Silverstone and Aragon as he replaced an injured Franco Morbidelli - was one of four riders to go underneath 2022 MotoGP rookie Raul Fernandez’ official Portimao lap record from last season.

The ex-BSB rider set a best lap time of 1:42.040s which was +0.148s away from the rider he replaces at GASGAS Aspar for 2022, Aron Canet.

Dixon chose not to make any changes to the bike throughout the day, instead using the available track time to analyse his performance on old and new tyres.

"Day two done. It has been a positive day, just riding: I haven't changed anything. I'm just trying to get the flow, feeling good on the bike and around the track," added Dixon.

"I have been running on old tyres, I was fast in old and new and I’m looking forward to day 3, to see what we can do, continuing in this way, doing a lot of laps on the last day before Qatar."

Dixon’s team-mate Albert Arenas also had a strong showing despite being eight tenths away from the Brit.

The former Moto3 world champion did suffer a crash towards the end of S6, however, the Spaniard feels his consistency has improved a lot over the two days.

Arenas said: "We finished today satisfied with how consistent we are. There is still work to be done, but at the end of the day I feel like we have taken another step forward.

"I had a small crash when I was improving at the end, but I keep the positive: I always ride close to my best time.

"We want to confirm this consistency tomorrow and to corroborate some things, but the path we are taking gives me the confidence to keep going like this."
