David Johnson could be forced to miss the final Bennetts British Superbike round of the season at Brands Hatch after injuring his hand in a mountain biking accident.

The Maxxis Honda rider has fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right-hand after coming off his mountain bike during training for the season finale.

Coming a year after he was forced to miss the last round of the 2007 season when he broke several bones and damaged his vertebrae in an accident on the Stars of Darley Moor, Johnson had decided not to attend that meeting this year, only for him to get injured doing something else.

He will undergo a medical check at Brands Hatch before deciding whether he will be able to compete.

"Part of my fitness routine is going off-road mountain biking. Last week I slipped off and broke a bone in my hand. The team did not attend Darley Moor this year (due to other commitments) but it looks like lightening has struck twice."

"I am off to the medical centre before free-practice (Friday) for an injection, so hopefully, it will be alright and not affect me too much. Having missed out on the final round last year, I am determined to be at Brands and see the season through."
