Scott Redding has secured pole position at Assen in preparation for his charge in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship Showdown with lap record pace to see off Tommy Bridewell and Luke Stapleford.

The Be Wiser Ducati rider produced a 1m 35.588s to take top spot in Q3 and despite a late improvement from Bridewell on the Oxford Racing Ducati he held on to pole position at the Dutch track.

Luke Stapleford looked set to upset the top two having provisionally slotted into second place thanks to his final lap in qualifying before being shuffled back to third by Bridewell but it still marks the Buildbase Suzuki rider’s best career qualifying result in BSB.

Jason O’Halloran, who surprised by topping Q2, heads up the second row for McAMS Yamaha ahead of BSB championship leader Josh Brookes on the Be Wiser Ducati. But the 2015 champion remains off the pace of his team-mate at Assen with his qualifying time leaving him half a second back.

Fellow BSB Showdown challenger Danny Buchan completes the second row for FS-3 Racing Kawasaki keeping clear of an impressive effort by BSB rookie Ryan Vickers on the RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasaki.

Tyco BMW duo Christian Iddon and Glenn Irwin completed the Q3 contenders in eighth and ninth respectively – with Iddon suffering a premature end to his qualifying due to a crash at Turn 3.

Hector Barbera narrowly missed out on the Q3 places in 10th place for Quattro Plant JG Speedfit Kawasaki but in front of BSB Showdown challenger Peter Hickman in 11th for Smiths Racing BMW.

Final BSB Showdown member Tarran Mackenzie could only reach 15th in qualifying at Assen for McAMS Yamaha.
