Bennetts British Superbike series leader Jason O’Halloran claims a first ever Knockhill podium thanks to second place in race one.

The McAMS Yamaha rider started from pole - also his first at the Scottish venue, but had to settle for second after a role reversal from Oulton Park saw Christian Iddon claim the win.

The Australian had slightly better pace than the Ducati rider in the final stages but was unable to make a last ditch overtake for victory.

Still, the result is O’Halloran’s best which ‘feels like a win for me’ given previous struggles in Scotland.

"Finishing second today, although it’s not a win it feels like a win for me. I have been trying for a very long time to get a podium and it’s never really come together, so to get pole position and a second in race one is fantastic," said O’Halloran.

"The bike has been working really well. It’s been manic with the two day schedule. I feel like we’ve not stopped all day so the result feels good."

Having not set one of the fastest race laps which helps determine your grid position for the following race, O’Halloran will start today’s race two from the third row - worst starting position this year.

O’Halloran added: "It’ll be tricky starting from row three tomorrow, but we’ve got a few things to try in the warm-up and I think the longer race will suit us so I’m looking forward to coming through the field and hopefully we can get another podium."
