Alfa Romeo has confirmed it has officially appealed the post-race time penalties which denied the team a double points finish at Formula 1’s German Grand Prix.

Kimi Raikkonen headed teammate Antonio Giovinazzi in seventh place at Hockenheim but both drivers had 30 seconds added to their finishing positions as punishment for clutch-related setting infringements before the race.

Lewis Hamilton profited from the penalty to enhance his championship lead over Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas, while Robert Kubica was promoted up to 10th to score his and Williams’ first points of the season.
