British Superbike title contender Jake Dixon will move to Moto2 next season, after being officially confirmed at the Angel Nieto Team.

Dixon currently lies second in the BSB standings, 31-points behind Leon Haslam, with two rounds remaining.

The British star, who previously appeared as a Moto2 wild-card at Silverstone in 2017, joins countryman Sam Lowes in being confirmed on the 2019 Moto2 grid.

“I want to say thank you to Jorge Martínez 'Aspar' and the Ángel Nieto Team for believing in me and giving me this opportunity," Dixon said. "This is a team with a lot of experience and several world titles behind them and I am looking forward to being part of a new project with the Ángel Nieto Team and KTM.

"The first season will be for gathering as much information as possible, learning as much as I can and then fighting for the championship after that. I’d also like to say thanks to RAF Regular & Reserve Kawasaki, my team for the past two seasons, for everything they have done for me and to everybody that has helped make it possible for me to make the step up to the Moto2 World Championship.”

Moto2 is switching from 600cc Honda to 765cc Triumph engines, alongside a more advanced ECU, next season.

Meanwhile, with Haslam (WorldSBK) and Dixon now confirmed as leaving, and reigning champion Shane Byrne still injured, BSB might well push even harder for a big name rider such as Scott Redding to join the series in 2019...
