Aleix Espargaro has been ruled out of this afternoon's German MotoGP race due to injuries in a morning warm-up highside.

The Aprilia rider suffered left rib damage when he was thrown from his machine at Turn 4 - moments after moving to the top of the timesheets - and has been taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital in Chemnitz for further checks.

The Spaniard had been due to receive a grid penalty if he started the race, after obstructing Marc Marquez on Saturday.

Espargaro joins Franco Morbidelli and Mika Kallio in withdrawing from the Sachsenring round.

Morbidelli tried to return from a hand fracture last time at Assen, while Kallio suffered knee ligament injuries on Friday.

Aleix's younger brother Pol went on to lead warm-up.
