Ben Spies' luck finally changed as the America rider completed the San Marino MotoGP without major incident to finish fifth on the Factory Yamaha.

The Texan made a solid start from his position on the third row of the grid and although he suffered from a loss of speed mid-race, Spies was able to up the ante in the closing stages and snatched fifth place from Stefan Bradl.

Spies, who remains in 10th place in the championship standings, said: "I know we didn't get on the podium but I'm glad we were able to finally just have a normal race.

"Some of the times weren't quick enough for the podium but we put on a good charge in the end.

"We struggled with a few things, especially some feeling with the front tyre," he added.

"It's been a difficult weekend and we didn't start the race with the perfect set-up but luckily could still put together an okay race.
