Marquez joins elite eight-in-a-row group

MotoGP champion Marc Marquez has joined an elite list of riders to have won eight premier-class races in a row.

Only Giacomo Agostini, Mike Hailwood, John Surtees and Mick Doohan have also won eight successive races, while the last time a rider matched Marquez in winning the opening eight events was Agostini in 1971.

Agostini won the first ten races of the year in 1968, '69 and '70, while Doohan claimed ten in a row (but not the first ten) during the 1997 season.

Marquez will have his shot at nine in a row at the Sachsenring in Germany on Sunday.
