Nicky Hayden targeting Aragon comeback

Nicky Hayden will miss his fourth MotoGP in a row at Misano this weekend, but believes he will be fit for the following Aragon round.

The former MotoGP world champion has battled right wrist issues for most of the season, twice undergoing surgery. The second operation saw small bones removed in an effort to increase mobility.

"Definitely I'm going to miss the next race in Misano but plan on that being the last and making my return at Aragon," Hayden said in a You Tube video update.

"Yesterday I did some flat track riding on the dirt to give my doctors some feedback and it was how I kinda hoped to feel. Of course I'm not strong enough to ride a MotoGP bike yet, but definitely I'm improving.

"I wasn't suffering a lot with the pain. The big thing now is to get the movement and strength back. Not only did I have one big operation but a smaller one before that. So it's been a ongoing deal that's caused the wrist and arm to get weak.

"I don't like to miss races but don't think I've been at home on summer vacation goofing off. I've worked closely with my doctor and done everything he's asked, the rehab and physical therapy.

"I was also able to keep training during the time off the bike. That's starting to get more intense in the last two week and I'm getting my conditioning back up. I'm feeling better every day."

Leon Camier has been riding Hayden's Open-class Aspar Honda while he recovers.

"Leon has been riding my bike, doing a good job. I miss being at the track and with my team. I've been keeping in contact with them and look forward to seeing everyone in Aragon."

Hayden has a two-year deal with the Aspar team.
