Yuki Takahashi will fill in for the injured Leon Camier at the Jerez World Superbike round next month.

Camier is continuing his recovery from a shoulder injury which he sustained in a crash at the Imola round, an off that forced him to miss the two-day Misano test, and he will be replaced by former MotoGP rider Takahashi who will race alongside regular rider Ryuichi Kiyonari at the Moriwaki Althea Honda squad.

Camier’s condition will be reassessed during the build-up to the round following at Misano (June 21-23) as he hopes to return to action as soon as possible.

“I’m obviously very disappointed to have to sit out the test in Misano and the Spanish round and miss the chance to continue working on our bike’s setup and development,” Camier said. “Anyway, we are where we are and we must accept it, considering that the shoulder joint is a complex one and it’s only normal that the ligament damage takes some time to heal.

“Having said that, my recovery is going well and steadily so everything’s on track. The pain is gradually lessening, and my movement is improving, so we’ll wait and see how the situation is prior to the Misano round.”

Takahashi tested with the factory Honda World Superbike squad at Misano this week, alongside fellow stand in Xavi Fores, with the Jerez round marking the Japanese rider’s debut in the world championship having competed in the All Japan Road Race JSB10000 championship.
