The two-time world champion is expected to get behind the wheel of an older Renault chassis using Alpine’s 2021 livery for a lap of the 8.467-mile Circuit de la Sarthe as part of Saturday’s pre-race celebrations.

Alonso will be joined at Le Mans by teammate and Hungarian Grand Prix winner Esteban Ocon, who will be taking part in the demo run driving an Alpine A110 GT4 car.

A number of other Alpine cars will join the Anglo-French squad’s F1 duo, with Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi set to drive an A110S.

The ‘Alpine parade’ will take place at 14:10 local time on Saturday at Le Mans prior to the start of the legendary 24 hour race that acts as the blue riband event on the World Endurance Championship calendar.

Alpine has been rumoured to join fellow manufacturers Peugeot, Ferrari, Porsche and Audi in committing to the WEC’s Hypercar class in 2022 or 2023.

Alonso won the famous 24 hour race at Le Mans twice during his stint driving for Toyota in the WEC between 2018 and 2019.

Alonso and Ocon will return to F1 action at the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps on August 29, one week after their Le Mans outing.

Alpine currently holds fifth place in the constructors’ championship, nine points clear of nearest rivals AlphaTauri heading into the second half of the 2021 F1 season.
