Bridewell secures Portimao wild-card.

Tommy Bridewell will make his World Superbike debut next month after receiving a wild-card entry for the season finale in Portugal.

Tommy Bridewell will make his World Superbike debut next month after receiving a wild-card entry for the season finale in Portugal.

Bridewell will ride the Team NB Suzuki GSXR1000 that was campaigned by his brother Ollie in last year's British Superbike Championship before his tragic death at Mallory Park.

The 20-year-old, who has been racing in the Italian Superbike Championship this year, will take to the grid at the all-new Portimao circuit, which will host its inaugural event at the beginning of November.

"I'm delighted that our application has been successful and this will be a real test for us which I'm looking forward to. It's been a tough year all round but to round it off with some World Championship points would be awesome and that's what I'm aiming to do.

"Because this is surplus to our plans, both my dad and I are financing it to a greater extent but it's too good an opportunity to miss and it's good to see Old Ginger's bike finally getting used where it should be!"

Bridewell, who has raced in the 125cc World Championship as a wild-card at the British Grand Prix, has gained international experience from racing in the ISC and the Suzuki GSX-R 750 European Cup.

He will be joined by fellow Brits Leon Haslam and Cal Crutchlow in assuming a wild-card entry for Portugal.
