Sergio Perez says he is already working with Red Bull on “some good ideas” he believes can help improve the Formula 1 team heading into the upcoming 2021 season.

The Mexican has been drafted in to Red Bull’s line-up as a replacement for the underperforming Alex Albon following an outstanding 2020 campaign in which he claimed a shock maiden grand prix victory and finished fourth in the drivers’ championship.

Perez recently visited Red Bull’s Milton Keynes headquarters for the first time and has been getting accustomed to his new surroundings ahead of the new season. He completed a seat fit, met members of his engineering crew and has already driven the RB16 car on the simulator.

After getting an initial impression of how Red Bull operates, the 30-year-old has suggested some ideas to help the team make a step forward in 2021.

"I've been in the sport in different teams and in different eras," Perez said in his first video interview since arriving at Red Bull.

"I think I know what I need from myself, but I also feel that I can push the team forwards in certain areas, just by talking to the team.

"I think we know the direction. Obviously I have to wait and drive the car, but there's already some good ideas that we've been sharing with the team, that hopefully can bring some performance on track.”

Having spent seven years at Force India/Racing Point, Perez said the move to Red Bull has left him feeling like a “dog finding a new family”.

“In a way very different to the teams that I worked for, the organisation is tremendously high, a lot of people and the resources that are here are very impressive,” he explained.

“I can’t wait to get on track with my group of people. Obviously I've been seven years with a team so it feels a bit different. It's like a dog finding a new family. You’ve been with a family for so many years and you're used to seeing them and then all of a sudden you are changing.

“But I have to say, I'm starting to feel very comfortable here. It's a fantastic team, very united, and I can see that there's a lot of fun ahead of us.

“It’s just a dream come true working with Adrian [Newey], with the amount of engineers. And the level of engineering inside this team is very impressive.”
