Cal Crutchlow has topped FP3 at his home round while Danilo Petrucci was one of few riders to make key gains during the session to book an automatic Q2 spot by moving up to seventh place on the combined times.
While the LCR Honda rider topped the times with a 2m 01.866s, Petrucci had been set to miss out on the top 10 following Friday’s practice but recovered sufficiently in the chilly conditions of FP3 to produce a 2m 01.893s to take P7 on the combined times.
FP3 started with damp patches scattered across the Silverstone circuit following heavy overnight rain but with conditions improving the track quickly dried up.
But with cold track temperatures none of the MotoGP riders were able to better Dovizioso’s FP2 effort of 2m 01.385s to see the bulk of the top order remain unchanged.
With Petrucci taking a top 10 spot, Pramac Ducati team-mate Jack Miller also impressed by taking third place on the FP3 times ahead of Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Johann Zarco and Movistar Yamaha duo Maverick Vinales and Valentino Rossi.
Franco Morbidelli narrowly missed out on the Q2, ending the combined times P11 for Marc VDS Honda, with Dovizioso, Marc Marquez and Bradley Smith rounding out the top 10 in FP3.
